Have you ever had a really awesome peach?  I mean really awesome.  You would know if you have.  I’ve got a guy, my really awesome peach dealer.  Every week during the season, I go to the farmers market to pick up delicious white peaches that come from a small farm in Pennsylvania .  While you could just [...]

Say Cheese!

Sweet D has turned a corner in the food department.  One day she would only eat waffles, bananas and string cheese; the next day she was open to vegetables, spices and meat!  Hooray!  This is a phase that I can live with.  That said… she’s still one.  Steamed veggies straight up aren’t going to cut [...]

You may have heard about Yahoo’s new CEO, Marissa Mayer, and how they hired her knowing she is pregnant… and that she’s planning to work through her maternity leave.  If you haven’t heard about it, I’m going to assume that your internet has been down until this very moment because everyone seems to be talking [...]

Grilling for the 4th

I love the 4th of July.  It has always been my favorite holiday.  Cook-outs, family and friends, and fireworks — what’s not to love?! Even as an adult I get excited for the 4th.  But now rather than stuffing my face with the food other people make for me, I stuff my face with food [...]

First Birthday Smash Pie

People always tell me that time flies quickly with kids and to savor every moment – strangers say that to me.  I nod and say things like “Don’t I know it!” and give a fake laugh and walk away annoyed that a person would think that I don’t savor moments with my daughter.  How dare they?! [...]

Kale chips: You can’t eat just one

Potato chips are delicious. I’m pretty sure that’s one food topic most people would agree on. Potato chips are delicious. But they are terrible for you! Even baked chips aren’t guilt-free. So what’s a person to do if they can’t get that crunchy, salty fix from potato chips? Kale chips. I’m not going to try [...]

I don’t like to bake.  You already know that about me.  I’m not good at following directions so baking and I don’t really get along.  When I cook savory meals, I can freelance!  A dash of this!  A splash of that!  I can do a little dance and twirl all while running through a meadow [...]

A Girl and Her Grill: Grilled Eggplant Parmesan

| 06/08/2012 | 0 Comments

I’m a girl who loves to grill.  For some reason in the world of home cooking, those are things that seldom go together but I don’t really understand why.  I won’t dissect the gender stereotypes here – it really doesn’t matter.  What does matter is that I love to grill.  It is time to spend [...]

French Press Coffee — The Cheaper Single Cup Option

This week we had our first trip to the emergency room.  All is fine – wheezing and coughing turned out to be a virus, not croup or pneumonia.  But that doesn’t change the fact that ER trips are exhausting especially when they are at night.  The next morning rolls around, the alarm clock goes off [...]

The Versatile Baked Apple

The Versatile Baked Apple

My husband and I lived in New England for a few years.  Every fall we would get a group of friends together and go apple picking. Apple picking is a big thing in that area.  A big. Thing.  We go apple picking here in Maryland, but it isn’t like in New England.  The air is crisp, farms [...]
