Baby Gizmo Spotlight Review: UPPAbaby G-Lite 2013 Stroller
Like we told you yesterday, UPPAbaby has been hard at work lately making changes to their G-Series for 2013. The G-Lite and the G-Luxe are the brand’s lightweight umbrella strollers and both have gone through a transformation to make them even better this year. Today we are talking about the 2013 G-Lite.
The G-Lite is not only UPPAbaby’s lightest stroller option but one of the lightest full-size umbrella strollers on the market weighing it at 8.8 lbs.
For 2013, the G-Lite has a few minor changes including a more streamlined frame, higher weight capacity, and a new 5-point harness buckle.
SEAT
With the new higher weight capacity of 55 lbs, the G-Lite can accommodate a taller, heavier child with its roomy seat. The seat is 12 1/2″ wide, with a 21″ seat back and a measurement of 27″ from seat back to canopy. It sports a non-padded, adjustable, 5-point harness with a new buckle.
Since this is UPPAbaby’s scaled down umbrella stroller, there is no adjustable footrest and no seat recline. The seat is upright and is appropriate for babies 6+ months and up. If a reclining seat and adjustable leg rest is what you are looking for, check out the UPPAbaby G-Luxe.
STORAGE
Similar to the G-Luxe, the basket on the G-Lite isn’t bad. For an umbrella stroller, the basket is quite roomy. We can easily fit a medium-size diaper bag in the basket or a few baby essentials. Besides the basket, there is a handy cup holder for mom but no other storage on the stroller.
HANDLES
If you are tall, the G-Lite handles are for you. While some other umbrella strollers will give you the dreaded stroller hunch as you push, the G-Lite sports higher handles that are almost 42″ from ground to top of handles to give even our taller friends a comfortable push.
CANOPY
At first glance, the canopy doesn’t look all that huge. Not to worry though, there is a huge SPF 50+ pop-out sun visor hidden in the canopy to double the canopy in size.
WHEELS
The G-Lite rolls on 4.5″ smooth rubber wheels. Since this is an umbrella stroller, it is best indoors and outdoor smooth surfaces. If you need to take the stroller on grass, playground mulch or gravel, you’ll want to lock the front swivel wheels straight to achieve a little better maneuverability. The stroller also sports all wheel suspension to absorb some of the bumps.
FOLD/UNFOLD
The G-Lite is a very easy stroller to fold and unfold. You press a safety button on the handle bar, lift two finger triggers and the stroller folds easily and locks into place with an auto lock. The stroller was also designed with a free-standing fold that doesn’t require you to lean it against a wall to keep it upright. With the handy carry strap that allows you to fling the stroller on your back and the fact that it only weighs 8.8 lbs makes this a great travel stroller.
The 2013 G-Lite comes in three colors – Jade, Black and Red and retails for $149. To get an up close and personal look at the 2013 UppaBaby G-Lite, watch our Baby Gizmo Video below.
