Thank you for doing this. I have found it hard to get into the holiday spirit this year as we lost my grandmother this year. I know all of the traditions are going to be difficult, but through it all we have had a miracle. My sister found out just before grandmas passing that she is pregnant with a little girl. We cant wait for this little one to join our family and even though she wont be here until April I went out and bought her the softest blanket I could find. She’s going to be our little christmas angel, and soften the sadness we are all feeling at the loss of our matriarch.

My daughter BRianna’s 9th birthday was last week. She asked for a sewing machine and fabric. That’s what we bought her. For the past week she has worked day after day to make gifts with her sewing machine for what I assumed was her brothers and sisters. This morning she presented me with a stack of gifts- some aprons, hats, little blankies- she used every single piece of fabric she got from her birthday. Then she said she said she wanted to go give them to the ‘poor kids’ in the neighborhood. We have 8 kids, and are by no means “well off-” so I found it especially touching she wanted to give her handmade gifts of love to those less fortunate. She’s a sweet cookie.

While tucking my son into bed last night, I asked what he liked doing most that day. He thought and then said the ‘warm time.’ I was a little confused and so asked what he meant. I always watch all the videos you post, especially when I was looking for a new stroller for my daughter several months ago, I also really loved your bumbo review, many people didin’t like it, but I thought you made your point, and it’s true the bumbo can and should ONLY be used on the floor. Here’s something nice. I see a lot of GOOD parents out there trying their BEST to do what is right for their kids. Sometimes I get the impression that there are a bunch of weirdos that don’t deserve to be parents when you hear things on the news. And that does happen. But very often I see moms and dads at the grocery store doing the right kinds of things, talking nicely to their kids, teaching them to be safe and polite and good, and it makes me really happy. Even when parents are losing their patience I can usually see that they are trying their best. It makes me hopeful for our future!

I’ve been struggling a bit with being back to work, late night feedings, and being now a mom of 2 and my husband has been struggling with how to make things easier. Last week he told me that when the baby wakes up at night he’ll be the one to change her diaper so I can get a few extra minutes – I know it sounds medial, but it meant the world to me – every minute is appreciated. But even more than those 5 or so extra minutes (he takes longer than I do to get the change done) it was the gesture of wanting to do what he could to help make the adjustment to our new family. I’m one lucky wife!

We received our Christmas presents in the mail from the in-laws yesterday. And yes, we’ve already opened them. (They’re in Arizona – how will they know?!?) And they purchased us gifts we actually like this year! This is GOOD news, because some of my gifts in the past have included: a Winnie the Pooh Christmas pen, a Winnie the Pooh Diary (yes, it said Diary, not journal), 4 cat cheese spreaders, various wooden & ceramic decorative cat knick-knacks. So when I write thank you notes this year, I really can be honest and tell them we liked the gifts!

Some man randomly prepaid for my coffee this morning. The barista told me just as I was juggling my baby girl to get out my wallet that the elderly gentleman who was walking out door had bought the next 10 people in line having just a plain old fashion coffee their drinks!
