Baby Gizmo Spotlight Video Review: BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light 2

Print Friendly

Since summer travel season is in full swing, many people are packing up the kids and hitting the road. When you get to your destination, one of the first things on your mind should be, “where is my baby going to sleep?” I hate to say it but hotels and resorts can be a little hit or miss in the baby sleeping arena. You just never know what you are going to get until you get there. They could be out of crib or pack n play unexpectedly? Maybe the hotel doesn’t check recalls? Maybe the crib they give you is just gross? Because it is so unpredictable and your baby/toddler will need their own space to sleep, I always recommend bringing your own bed for baby.

Sure, you can lug your own playard with you but those things are H-E-A-V-Y! As in twenty-to-thirty-pounds-heavy. Not very travel convenient if you ask me.

The BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light 2 is a great alternative to those playards that may weigh you down. At a mere 11 lbs, the Travel Crib Light 2 is not only lightweight but super easy to set-up and take-down. No need to worry about putting a tent-like product together or figuring out why the sides of that playard just won’t lock into place. The Travel Crib Light 2 sets up in less than 30 seconds. And the take-down is just as fast. It comes with it’s own carry case which is the size of a small suitcase and sports heavy-duty canvas handles for transporting.

Plus, it comes with a insulated, hypoallergenic mattress with a waterproof, breathable, removable mattress cover. There is even a 100% organic cotton fitted sheet that is sold separately. We highly recommend getting that sheet because regular crib sheets will not fit on this travel crib.

We love that the shape of the Travel Crib base maximizes the room for baby to sleep or play while keeping it stable. There is no “floor” in this travel crib like you would see in a traditional playard, so there is no weight limit. The insulated mattress sets on the floor so you never have to worry about your baby being too heavy for this crib. Of course, a child will outgrow it as they get taller but we think you could successfully use it with a toddler up to age 3.

All the fabric on Travel Crib is removable and machine-washable to make clean-up a breeze. If that isn’t enough, the BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light 2 has no harmful chemicals or allergens. Love that! The only thing we would change with this travel crib is for BabyBjorn to offer some sort of cover for the top. A mosquito cover, sun protection cover or even a cover that zips over the top to keep my mischevious toddler  in the crib when he’s supposed to be sleeping would be great accessories. As of right now, there is nothing available to cover the opening. Maybe they’ll add something in the future.

Overall, we think the BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light 2 is a great option for on-the-go. It comes in three colors (silver, black and blue) and retails for a pricey $279 (which is much more than a traditional playard!) but if you travel a lot and don’t like to hassle with a hard-to-put-up, heavy playard, it might just be worth it for you.
