Kids Growing Like Weeds? Try This…

Print Friendly

The other day as I was doing my normal rounds on the daily deal shopping sites, I happened to catch sight of a little something that peaked my interest.  Eversave had a deal on this website called thredUP.com.  Being the coupon queen, anything resembling a great deal immediately gets my attention!

I hightailed it on over to the thredUP.com to check them out.  I immediately noticed their slogan “Clothes Don’t Grow.  Kids Do”.  Well that’s for sure.  Little Bud just turned one and is already wearing a size 24 months.  That means I’ve been through an entire wardrobe of 0-24 month clothes in the last year alone.  I cringe to think of all the money I’ve spent!

ThredUP is a website where moms can go to swap kids clothes.  Really?  That’s an awesome idea.  I still have baby clothes with the tags on!  Instead of selling them at a yardsale like I planned, why not swap them for the sizes Little Bud needs?  Genius!

Once you sign up for the sight, you simply pick a box of clothes from another member that fits your needs.  For just $5.00 + $10.95 shipping, you get a decent sized box of clothes delivered right to your door.  You then gather up some of your previously gently used clothing and list that box on the website for other moms to view.  When someone else selects your box, thredUP notifies you and you ship the box directly to that member free of charge.  They even supply you with the boxes and send a postal carrier to your home to pick up the package (do I hear angels singing?).  You mean to tell me that I can de-clutter my house and get the clothes my kids need without ever leaving home?!?!  I think I might faint.

Naturally, my frugal nature won out and I couldn’t resist.  Eversave’s deal included one full box of kids clothing, free shipping on the first box, and a one year PRO membership for just $20 (retail value is $46).  The PRO membership entitles the member to some pretty nifty exclusive features.  This includes “first dibs” on newly listed boxes, e-mail notifications of box recommendations, the ability to compare up to 3 boxes at a time on the same page, and access to Golden Threds (boxes of brand new clothes from various retailers).  They made this sound so good that I couldn’t pass it up!

I have already ordered my first box of clothes and am anxiously awaiting their arrival.  I’m not expecting anything more than a box of gently used clothes for Little Bud to play in, but I just might be surprised.  I will let everyone know how this thing works out for us.  If this thing pans out, I may have just found the answer to my clothing budget woes!  ThredUp, I think I love you.  If you are as interested as I was, head on over to thredUP and check them out.

How about it guys and gals – anyone out there have experience with this site?

Its a cool idea. Can’t wait to hear what you think in a few months.

  2. I have used this site a few times. I have gotten some good boxes. It’s important not to expect perfection with the clothes. I have gotten a few things with the tags still on that is always a nice bonus. Sometimes I wish I could see pictures of the clothes just to get a better idea of what they look like. When reading the descriptions it can be hard to picture what it looks like. Overall I like the site, it’s easy to use and it’s fun to see what’s in the boxes when they arrive.
