bj_select4Baby Jogger debuted their new City Select 2010 Stroller at the ABC Kids Expo this past week!  The City Select is a multi-functional stroller that gives parents the ability to mix and match seats, bassinets and car seats to make the stroller perfect for them.  The City Select starts out as a single stroller but expands to a double by using Baby Jogger’s unique patented attachment method.  No need to buy a single AND a double stroller!  Love that!

In order to turn the stroller into a double, a sold separately double conversion kit is required.  There are 16 unique seating combinations from double tiered car seats to a bassinet and a single seat.  The only seating combo it doesn’t do is a double bassinet option.  The City Select features Baby Jogger’s famous Quick-Fold Technology making it the only in-line stroller to fold flat in one simple step.  With a 45 lb per seat weight capacity, the City Select will last you through your stroller years.

  1. New Dad says:

If you watch the video that’s floating around the internet, the double bassinet combination isn’t NOT possible, it’s just not recommended. Although it’s possible to configure the stroller as a double bassinet, you’d be leading with the infant’s head and at a low position, which would be a little risky. So unless you’re Pete Rose, it’s probably just not a good idea. ;)

  2. Julie says:

Hi There! I love this review of the Baby Jogger- we have been waiting to make the big purchase because I wanted to see this one in person! Now we are stuck between the BOB and the Baby Jogger. It is our first child and there will (hopefully) be more in a few years. Everyone I know is obsessed with their BOB, but I love the folding mechanism on the Baby Jogger! Thanks for any guidance!!

  3. admin says:

    Hi Julie,
Everyone is obsessed with their BOBs for good reason – they are fabulous strollers! The BJ City Select is a fabulous stroller as well though! My main question would be if you plan to actually jog with your stroller? Jogging is possible (if not recommended :) ) with the BOB but the City Select is NOT a jogging stroller! If jogging is not in your future (or you’d prefer to buy a separate jogger), the City Select gives you the awesome capability to turn it into a double stroller when you have your second child. Hope this helps a bit!

  4. Kate says:

    Hello Hollie :)
Thanks for your in-depth fabulous review. I’m devastated to be giving up my Bugaboo Cameleon as I’m expecting my 2nd baby in a few months and the age gap will be 17 months and I’m definitely going to need a double stroller. This stroller seems fantastic and will be coming out soon in Australia.
I was just wondering if you could tell me when both seats are attached if both seats can fully recline at all at the same time? (the default seats you buy upfront with the pram). I know that in some positions this won’t be possible, but is there any combo that provides this? Both facing each other? As I want to be able to have this option.
Thanks so much for all your info so far, it has been very helpful and is much appreciated.
    Kate

  5. admin says:

Yes, the seats both recline in a few of the configurations. 1) If the toddler seats are back to back and the front seat has the canopy in the lowest position (and down), you can recline the seats. The top seat will be over the head of the child in the bottom seat. I probably wouldn’t do that though. 2) If both seats are facing mom/dad, you can recline both seats. *This is the best configuration for both reclined! 3) If the seats are facing each other, you can recline the seats if you recline the top seat first.

So, yes it is definitely possible to recline two seats!

    Hope this helps!

  6. Sam says:

How does the stroller fold with one car seat and one toddler seat? Do you just remove car seat and fold? or is there another sep? Love the idea of this stroller, trying to find it to demo it in person. Have an 18 month old son with #2 due in May, so completely anxious to try this one out.

    Thanks for the detailed review!
    Sam

  7. admin says:

    Hi Sam,
Yes, all you have to do is remove the car seat and if the toddler seat is facing forward – it folds with no problem.

    Best,
    Hollie

  8. Sarah says:

Can the seats that comes with the stroller be used from newborn up? Or do you have to have the carseat attachment or bassinet attachment?

  9. admin says:

Baby Jogger recommends the toddlers seats from 6 months and up. They recommend using the car seat adapter or bassinet with a newborn.

  10. Kim says:

I have looked at this stroller many times at Buy Buy Baby and cannot figure out how the accessory pieces (belly bar, child tray) might fit onto the seats. Does anyone have either of those accessories? If so, how do they attach? I e-mailed Baby Jogger and the reply said it would be similar to their other products, but I don’t see how that is possible with the City Select because the seats don’t have the adapter holes. Also, does anyone have the car seat adapter? What car seat have you found that works well with the universal adapter. I tried the Graco Sungride 35 and it does not snap in well at all. Thanks for any advice/help!

  11. Jessica says:

Hi there, I wondered what this stroller is like off road? We don’t have any footpaths where we live, so either walk on the grass or road. The wheels look a little small- how do they cope with rougher surfaces? Do they have suspension? Thanks.

  12. Twyla says:

I have the same questions as Kim. One store I was in told me they haven’t come out with trays yet but will be. I would like to know this for sure before purchasing because Kim is right there are no adaptor holes. I am also considering purchasing the Graco snugride 35 as my kids come out big and need the extra room but it needs to be sturdy when attached to the stroller. One other site stated it is compatible with the snugride 2 and 32 but didn’t mention the 35.Thanks!

  13. admin says:

The Baby Jogger rep told me that the City Select does accept the Graco Snugride 35. Since I have not tried that car seat personally, I tend to believe Kim that it might not fit perfectly! I did try the regular Snugride and it fit fine. I found that the Maxi Cosi Mico fit very easily and the Snugride wasn’t bad either.

Also, I believe, the belly bar and adapter bar will be made specifically for the City Select and will be coming out in Spring sometime.

  14. Nicole says:

Do you know how the City Select compares to the Phil & Teds Vibe? Until I saw the City Select I had decided on the Vibe over all the other strollers I have looked at. Now I am wondering if this is better

    Nicole

  15. Kirstin says:

    Hey Nicole,
I just compared the Phil and Teds Vibe with the City Select in a store and I cannot rave enough about how much easier it was to maneuver the City Select! The Phil and Teds was very cumbersome in comparison. I have the same question as Jessica though and that is does anyone know how the City Select handles on rough terrain? I’m not looking to jog with it, but would like to go on nature trails with it.

  16. Andra says:

As a double stroller, the specs say it is 53 inches long. I got out the measuring tape – and wow! – it seems like a train! But, it does not seem that long in the video demos. For those of you that have seen/used it in person, did it feel that long?

  17. Meaghan says:

I bought the attachment for my peg perego carseat and it doesnt seem to be very secure. Has anyone else had problems with this? It seems like it would flip forward very easily if baby was squirmy once it got a bit bigger. Just looking for some tips…..

  18. Rebecca says:

Does the Strider Deluxe capsule fit?? Also When will this pram be in Tassie, and if so where can i check it out??

  19. jenni says:

where can you buy the baby jogger city select pushchairs from without buying them off the internet because i want to have a look at it first? just looking for some help

  20. Meira says:

Hi, I was wondering about folding the stroller with both seats – does it fold in 1 piece or do you have to remove the second seat before folding it and are left with 2 parts? Thanks for all the help.

  21. Dorothy says:

I demoed the City Select recently with my 2 y/o (we’re expecting #2 in the next month). My son is 36″ tall (average) and was actually a little too tall for the seat even with the foot bar extended. I don’t want to invest in another expensive stroller (we already have the Bugaboo Cameleon) if he’s going to grow out of it and/or become disinterested in riding in it in a year. Anyone with older children have any input? It was otherwise a very comparably easy double stroller…

  22. admin says:

    Hi Dorothy,
Did you try your son in the seat with the canopy in the top position? We were able to get our 3 year old (36 inch) tester in the seat easily without his head touching the canopy. Our 5 year old tester at 42 1/2 inches even fit in the seat. Here are pictures of our testers in the seat: http://www.ratedbymom.com/2010/01/baby-jogger-city-select-photos/

    Best,
    Hollie

  23. admin says:

You can fold the City Select with both seats attached if the seats are both facing forward. There is a picture of the stroller folded with both seat in our City Select pictures at: http://www.ratedbymom.com/2010/01/baby-jogger-city-select-photos/

  24. Shannon says:

I live in the danbury, ct area. Are there any stores that carry this so I can check it out in person???
I’ll keep my fingers crossed!! Shannon

  25. kimberly says:

I have been using this stroller for a little over a month. For the most part I love it, however there are flaws. I have a toddler and newborn – so I am using the graco carseat – I do not like how it fits onto the stroller – it doesn’t seem safe to me. I also don’t like that in several positions the seats won’t recline (baby in seat closest to me, facing me and toddler is in lower seat facing out) If you put the baby in the lower seat, but facing you and toddler closest to you facing out – the baby’s mouth would bang into the toddler’s food rest if you were to hit a bump which is very likely. Also, I agree with above poster that it does feel like a train!

  26. Winnie says:

Do you know if the quality of the bassinet (in particular, the mattress) is good enough to be used as a bassinet at home (i.e. at night for the first few months)? We haven’t been able to see and feel one in a store yet. Also, what is your opinion in terms of the need for a bassinet vs. the car seat? Thanks for your help!

  27. Eve says:

I own a baby jogger City Series with Pram from my first child (2 years old) , will the Pram fit the new City Select Module or will it require to buy a new one?

  28. Diane Brice says:

    Hi,
I just bought the stroller. I like it, but I have to say there is a problem. I have a 2 month old and a toddler. I bought a snuzzler for my baby so he can go in toddler seat bc the car seat adapters are on backorder. The problem is I cant recline one seat and leave the other seat upright. It seems that both seats need to be upright for any comfortable way to have 2 kids. I feel this is not expressed at all and it is a huge problem.

  29. Diane Brice says:

And yes, it is a train. Someone said I look like I am pushing a limo!! But it does ride very smoothly, I have to say

  30. Shannon says:

First of all, Hollie-Thank you for an EXCELLENT review! I was about to throw my laptop out the window yesterday in frustration of the link for this stroller on the Babyjogger website. Your review and extra helpful video were exactly what I was looking for.

I have a TALL 2 1/2 year old who will be almost 3 when his baby sister is born. Originally I had planned to keep my Mutsy 4-Wheel Light (spent a lot on this stroller as I knew I would use it for a 2nd baby) for the baby and transition my toddler to a buggy board if he needed it. But my mulitple-baby mommy friends are telling me that I will still want him to be able to ride in a stroller after 3 (I never thought I would do this, but I’m thinking it might be more manageable). We live in Manhattan and need a SMALL footprint for our stroller both for in our apartment and for on the busy city streets. Everyone and their brother has a Phil & Ted here as their double, which is what I thought I would get as well. However, Daddy saw this stroller at Buy Buy Baby and he fell in love with it (what?!).

So here’s my concerns/questions about this potential BIG purchase:

*Will my son be too tall/big too soon to actually warrant spending another $700 on a stroller?
*What is the size difference between this stroller and the Phil & Ted? It seems reviews are saying it’s pretty long.
*Biggest selling point so far for me on this stroller over the P&T is that I can snap in a carseat (along w/my toddler in his seat). In looking at the pics the configuration I would want is kinda impossible (baby facing me and closest to me, toddler facing out in front). Also, does anyone know if the universal adapter works for the Baby Trend Flex Loc car seat? I can’t find any info on the babyjogger site (it’s down right now) or anywhere on the web that confirms it works w/this seat. I REALLY don’t want to have to get another infant seat just to get this stroller. That would truly be my breaking point to get the P&T instead.

Any info Hollie or another actual user may have would be GREATLY appreciated…I just don’t want to have buyers remorse :)

  31. Gina says:

    Hi All,

I have seen this stroller in person at Buy Buy Baby. It is very smooth in the way that it rides but my only complainant is that the toddler seat does not seem long enough for an older child. And even if an older child could fit would he/she be comfortable in such a small seat. All in all, we really loved the stroller and feel that is worth it because of the many positions you could seat the babies in, the very spacious basket with zipper, the sun canopy (although not crazy about the velcro which holds it in place however it may be good for ventilation) and the weight does not seem as bad because of the way that it closes, which is much better than the uppa baby.
Interested to know what others think…

  32. Christy says:

I’ve been using this stroller for about 6 weeks now and have had to get a back tire replaced already. It was making a strange sound as though a ball bearing was catching then suddenly dropping and clicking against the others. That was about 3 weeks ago and today the same thing started to happen. I don’t know if it’s the tire or something in the frame, but at the price point and only owning it for 6 weeks…I’m less than impressed to say the least. I had an uppa baby before and it was MUCH lighter and easier to push. So far I’ve only used it with my 18 month old and am not happy with it compared to my uppa baby as a single but maybe it’s great as a double. I also agree with other that the foot rest is too short even in the longest position.

  33. Maria says:

Hi. I was wondering how the City Select moves in the snow. In terms of snow and space do you recommend a Uppa vista or a City Select?

  34. Kim says:

Just got my baby jogger and I think the world of it! The only thing that bothers me is……they are now making the waist strap in the middle of the seat….so when your baby sits back….the stap/buckle is right behind their back. It looks very uncomfortable. Thats my ONLY complaint!

  35. Susan says:

I think the white is really sharp. How hard is it to keep clean?

  36. admin says:

    Hi Susan,

As with any white stroller, it is going to be hard to keep clean! Even though the white is gorgeous – white and babies don’t usually mix very well! I’m just imagining a diaper explosion all over that gorgeous white fabric and thinking of the disaster it would be!

  37. jamie says:

IF YOU LIKE THE DIAMOND…GET IT!! I bought a combo of the Onyx main stroller w/ the Diamond seat (because the blk. second seat was out of stock) & now I wish I would’ve bought the entire set in the Diamond…YOU CAN REMOVE IT & WASH IT on gentle cycle, both the hood & seat! Comes out perfect! :)

  38. Paula says:

We love this city select! We are in the cabin rental listing business and we visit a lot of cabins. So we were looking for kind of an “off-road” type stroller for the paths, unimproved surfaces, etc.

We went to look for a off-road type stroller but quickly fell in love with the City select. The store let us take it out back in the grass to see how it would do. (Jen @ Lets Go strolling in Tampa was great) And we decided it would fit the bill

So to answer Kristen’s question about how it does off road. It is not “PERFECT” but it was a nice compromise. The back tires are not air filled but a foam type stuff. So since we are sometimes far away from finding an inner tube that was nice.
But I just love the style of the stroller.

  39. Jeremy L says:

I wrote a negative review of the city select stroller on this site after encountering serious safety issues with the product. My son was very nearly injured due to this stroller and the handle broke the first time we used it. The review appears to have been removed from your site. Just wondering why? Are you only allowing positive reviews to be posted? Kind of destroys your site’s credibility, don’t you think?

  40. admin says:

    Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for your question. No, we absolutely do not only allow positive reviews to be posted. We want honest reviews from parents whether they are good or bad and never remove a review because we think it is too negative. If a product needs a negative review because it has faults – then we want parents to know that. Did you write the review here on Ratedbymom or our main site Babygizmo.com? I’ll check into where the review went and feel free if you would like to repost the review. Thanks! – Hollie

If I purchase the single city select what attachment will I also need to use it for a newborn and toddler?

  42. colby says:

I saw one comment on the comparison of the city select to the BOB. I want to be able to run, but am not inclined to buy a overly wide double BOB. So can you really not run with this stroller? I wonder why it’s called a city jogger? Thanks for your help.

  43. Graciela says:

I want to buy the city select because I am expecting my second child, however my first one is 2 years old and quite big, so I was wandering till what height and weight will the seat last?

  44. Mimi says:

HiI purchased the City Select Stroller maybe a couple of months ago- not even and the handle to fold the stroller on the Left side just snapped and broke with not even much effert to fold down the stroller. And I can’t even fold down the stroller anymore and since the stoller did not fit in my car opened my Dad who happened to have a van had to come and pick up the stroller. Does this happen – the plastic material just snapped- it does not seem strong? Is there a recall on this? Now I can’t even fold the stroller down
